Exposition

Exposition of the History of Old Lithuania
The material displayed in this exposition covers the period from the formation of the Lithuanian State in the 13th century to its fall in the 18th century. The exposition reflects the political and social development in Lithuania at the time. The material displayed in this exposition recaptures the early Lithuanian Monarchy and the Gediminas Dynasty, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania under the rule of Jogaila and Vytautas, the Jagiellon dynasty and Lithuania’s Union with Poland. This exposition emphasizes the multicultural aspects of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, which can be found in the heritage of various ethnoconfession communities. Other themes, such as crafts, trade, education, art and culture, are also touched upon in this exposition.

Exhibition Dedicated to Vilnius Museum of Antiquities
An exhibition was opened to celebrate 150th anniversary (2006) of Vilnius Museum of Antiquities. The exhibition is displayed in three different halls, each containing a collection of various authentic exhibits. The exposition is arranged in the combination of the 19th c and contemporary style. The exhibition fully recaptures the atmosphere and history of the Museum of Antiquities. Besides, it also presents the founders of the Museum.

Ethnographic exposition “Lithuanian Ethnic Culture”This exposition depicts trade, housekeeping and folk-crafts of Lithuanian peasants of the 18th—20th c and emphasizes the peculiarities of the traditional Lithuanian culture. The articles displayed in this exposition recapture various activities of Lithuanian peasants: agriculture, stockbreeding, fishing, hunting and apiculture. The work of craftsmen, such as hoopers, curriers, potters and carpenters, is reflected in the displayed tools and articles. The re-created living rooms and outhouse of the peasants of the 18th—19th c  – the smoky cottage, porch, boxroom and living-room – all display interesting household tools.
The exposition includes folk-crafts articles, such as masks, Easter palms and decorated Easter eggs. Folk sculptures, ancient monuments, crosses and graphic works are also presented in this exposition.
